I have to find the cord to upload pics from my camera, so my post about my visit to my family will have to wait until N comes home from work.  Ingrid tagged me to list 8 random things about me.

1.  I’ve had over 2o jobs.  Mostly because I have been working since I was 13, and I have often had multiple jobs at one time.

2.  The only sport I’ve ever been good at is trap shooting.

3.  Although I hate folding laundry, it drives me insane when other people fold my laundry.

4.  No matter how hard I try to give it up, I continue to drink coffee.  I drink a lot of decaf, since at work, I’ll drink 2 pots by myself.

5.  Ever since I got home from studying abroad in Germany five years ago, I have been craving the food, namely: Kasebroetchen, Mohnkuchen, Hoernchen with Nutella, Leberwurst, Butterkaese, and Kostritzer beer.

6.  I love courduroy pants–the non-stretchy kind.

7.  I work at the same place as my husband.  We met at the place where we both previously worked together.  We may always be employed at the same place.

8.  I know 4 different alphabets: Latin, Cyrillic, IPA, and Suetterlin Script.

I’m tagging: Nicole, knitnzu, TM, Lynda, –and all the other people I would have tagged have already been tagged, so I’m not going to re-tag them!

Finally Finished!

I’m finally finished with Girly’s capris.  I’ve made some corrections to the pattern, too.

And they fit!  They’re a little snug, but they’ll fit for a couple weeks.  Girly likes to wear dresses, so she can chew on them.

She also recently found her toes:

And Goozle has become quite the little jock.  I suppose it’s to counteract the knitting 🙂

Don’t let the grass and the soccer ball fool you; he’s shooting hoops!

He plays basketball in his sleep even.

This weekend, we’re going to go and visit my family.  I plan on stopping at 4 different yarn stores in the vicinity.  I’m going to get some yarn that they don’t carry at my LYS.  It is also city-wide garage sales!  I’m hopefully going to stock up on some cute kids clothes.  We’re going to visit my grandparents, too.  My grandma is not doing that great.  She’s been in and out of the hospital.  I want to knit her a gift, since she is a knitter/crocheter/overall artsy person.  I can if I don’t have to drive.  I hope it’s nice weather, because we’re grilling out at my dad’s.  I’m going to show my brothers how to spin, too.  I honestly can see them doing that.

oops

I deleted my photos off of flickr, because they were posted on my blog.  Now that I’m at work, I noticed that you can’t see the photos.  Oops.  I’ll have to put them back.  I’m not good at computers! 🙂

No Picot

Thongs are difficult to photograph!  The lacy thong is finished sans picot.  I tried a couple times, but I couldn’t get it right.  This was a fun project, even though I screwed it up the first few times.  Now, I need a ribbon.  The yarn is Katia Cindy, color Tangerine Delight.  I got it off of elann.com.  It’s a synthetic yarn, but it was fun to work with–very slippery.

I have my last presentation for the research I did my last semester of college on Wednesday.  Last Monday, I presented my poster at Student Research Day.  My mom came up, because I was getting stressed out.  My dad and his girlfriend were actually in the Cities that day, so they stopped by, too.  The project was about grammatical variations in the Wisconsin dialect, and I interviewed all three of them.  It was nice to show them something that I did that was somewhat intelligent.  It’s a contrast to playing pink bunny and my job which is not too exciting.

I am bound and determined to finish Girly’s capris tomorrow.  Even if I have to stay up all night!

Broadening my Horizons

I’ve read that knitters tend toward a certain color choice.  Apparently mine is green.  This is probably half of my stash.  My stash isn’t very big.

From L-R

top: Malabrigo (2 skeins), Malabrigo, Cascade Sierra, Little Turtle Knits, mystery ball, mystery ball

middle: Blue Sky cotton, Classic Elite Paintbox (2 balls), Dale of Norway Baby Ull, some novelty yarn (2 balls), Dalegarn Sisik (2 balls),  Sirdar Snuggly Bubbly

bottom: Cascade 220, Senseo microfibre, Treliske Organic that I overdyed, Noro Silk Garden, Cascade 220, Cascade 22o Superwash

I missed a ball of Knitpicks Crayon that is also green.

I’m finally to the legs of Girly’s capris.  Hopefully they’ll be done by tonight!  (And yes, there is green in that pretty ball of yarn!)

I think I should broaden my horizons a bit and buy something that’s not green or has green in it.  I also buy a shade of red that’s kind of pinkish and since I had a boy, blue.

Goozle’s Busy Day

First, he got into the wipes and squeezed all the water out.  Then he did some dusting:

Next, he pulled the loose string off of the table.  He picked it up and decided to knit a little:

Then, he figured out the most disgusting way to possibly eat peanut butter & jelly:

Kids are gross.  Now he’s napping.

Project One Million and One…

is this cute little guy.  Geckogrrl converted some Amigurumi patterns to knit for those of us who are crochet-impaired!  That was nice of her!  I think I’m going to make it using some bulky weight yarn that I don’t have enough to make anything out of.  I think I’ll make it for Girly since Goozle has enough stuffed animals that he doesn’t play with.

Goals for the week: finish Girly’s fancy capris (so she can wear them for like a week) and my sister’s thong (I’m not sure that I ever mentioned that she collects thongs).  Cast on for the Zune case.  My sister’s boyfriend has been carrying around his Zune in a sock while he waits patiently for me to get knitting!

Yarn Harlot or Bust!

Last night my mom and I went up to the Twin Cities to see the Yarn Harlot.  In all honesty, I’m surprised we made it!  I printed off 3 Mapquests: how to get to Mitchell College of Law where the Yarn Harlot was, how to get to my friends’ house in case we were running late, and how to get from the Yarn Harlot to my friends’ house in Minneapolis.  I thought we could get over to St. Paul and shop around at all the shops downtown (things will be great when you’re downtown), but we got there too late.  So we followed the Mapquest directions to my friends’ house.  (I’d call them the Ws, but he’s a pretty strong democrat and might be offended!)  We got there at 6:30 and no one was home, so we were going to take off and just take Goozle with when she got home.  So, we unloaded Goozle and attempted to reverse the Mapquest directions back to St. Paul.

By this time it was 6:45; the Yarn Harlot started at 7.  The problem with Minnesota is that all of their roads are numbers.  It seems like they weren’t creative enough.  We were supposed to be on 4th St. SE and ended up on 4th St. S which is not the same thing.  We ended up at the Metrodome–season opener!  We decided to keep going on that street to find our way back to I94.  Somehow we managed to.  I’m terrible at city driving, so getting lost is not the best thing to do.  After we found 94, we found our exit ok, but then we couldn’t find the street we were supposed to.  I took a look at the map, and my mom had the directions from my house to my friends’ house.  No wonder things weren’t making sense!  We finally got there around 7:15.

Supposedly there was class going on, so parking was supposed to be terrible.  Luckily for me, I think parking signs are idle threats.  As long as there’s no “No Parking at Any Time” sign just designated hours, I’ll park there.  So I parked under a sign that said “No Parking 8am-8pm Mon-Fri”.   We cut across the lawn, through the shrubbery and tried a couple doors before finding the right one.  The place was packed, but we found a nice seat in the back corner next to the window.

She was hilarious!  I haven’t laughed that hard for a long time.  It was fun to see so many handknit things in one room.  The woman in front of me was wearing a blue sweater with purple and green vertical dashes.  Another woman was knitting some beautiful lace.  And I got lots of compliments on Girly’s (high water) fancy pants!

Stephanie has a great rule that people with babies can cut in line!  I love it.  I wish lots of places had this rule!  I got a copy of her new book and got it signed.

And she wanted to hold the baby and complimented me on her pants!  A nice lady in line took a pic for me and e-mailed it to me.  Then on our way out, Girly won a door prize (Easy Vine Lace Scarf pattern) for being the youngest knitter!

On our way back to the car, we noticed a sign that said “Do Not Walk Through Shrubs”.  We went down a ways and cut through anyway.  We made it back to my friends’ without too many wrong turns.  Then we all went to Baker’s Square where both kids screamed and screamed.  My mom walked around with Girly so I could visit.

All in all, it was one of the funnest days I have had for a long time.

Dye job

Here’s my attempt to dye yarn using cake food coloring, Easter egg dye, and Koolaid.  I baked it in the oven!

Skeining it up

Drying–I especially like the parts that got screwed up with the blue color getting on the pink and yellow

Finished and wound up into a yarn egg

How in the world is this comfy?  She sleeps like this all the time.
