Yesterday was quite the eventful day.  When I went downstairs in the morning, I could smell something burning.  N though maybe it was someone setting off fireworks.  Then we went to go cash our paychecks, and the roads were all barricaded.  We turned on the radio to find out that there had been an explosion at the toxic chemical recycling plant, and that there were voluntary evacuations.  So we zigzagged back to our apartment, shut the windows, and went out to lunch.  We spent the rest of the day at friends’ houses.  There’s a video of the explosion and smoke here.  Apparently, there are oxygen tanks buried under the plant.  Fortunately, they didn’t catch fire or explode, or things could have been much worse.  I think they said on the news they had 125 fire fighters out fighting the fire, and it was the biggest, worst fire many of them had seen.  Nobody was hurt, and supposedly no toxic chemicals were detected in the smoke.
